1- What is the difference between re-roofing and roofing maintenance?
These are two different terms roofing companies will use. Roofing maintenance refers to partially repairing your current roof due to wind, snow or ice pellet damages. The roofers will only replace the damaged shingles. This way or doing so will save you a lot. On the other hand, re-roofing is more costly. Roofers will need to replace current roofing shingles. 2- How much re-roofing cost?
If it’s your first time replacing your home’s roof, or any roof, you might want to have a reality check. Roofing replacements are not cheap. When you’re starting to see those symptoms, you might consider thinking about changing your whole roof shingles. 3- Shingles, shingles, shingles…. Which one to pick?

There is a lot of different variants, with different features that will benefit your type of investment and your protection. SML Construction commonly uses architectural roof shingles instead of 3-tab shingles because they last longer, look better, and are more resistant to high winds.
4- Do I layer new shingles on top of my current shingles?
You basically have two options: Layering or stripping your current shingles. But first, you will have to know how many layers of shingles there are currently on your roof. If you already have 2 layers, it won’t be possible to add a third layer. This means the roofers will have to strip them out to install a new layer, which also means extra cost. On the other hand, if you currently only have one layer on your roof, you are able to save some money by asking the roofers to simply layer them on top of the current ones. Although, if you live in an area with strong winds, SML Construction would recommend only have one layer of shingles so it can last longer.
5- What should I get from the Ottawa Roofing Company before starting?
A roof replacement is a pretty big job and investment. That’s why it’s important to have everything in order before starting the job. You should always get a service agreement (contract) from your contractor where it has all the service details written, including their warranty. Warranties vary from the company’s philosophies but tend to stand around 5 years. Shingles warranties are different, always ask your roofers for the shingles’ warranty.
